About us

We play both Golf Croquet (GC) and Association Croquet (AC), and have qualified coaches in both codes. Our members range from total beginners to those who compete regularly at county and national level.

Club Facilities

We have exclusive use of no. 2 green at Hillsborough Park Bowling Club (HPBC), giving one full croquet lawn (35 yds x 28 yds), which we can divide into two half-size courts, as necessary.

This allows more members to play, and it also allows SCC to host both friendly and YCF league inter-club matches.   It is usual for two games to be played on a court at the same time which means that members do not have to wait to play.

Our members normally have use of the excellent Hillsborough pavilion facilities, where they can relax and enjoy a cup of tea between games.

The typical croquet season runs from the first week in April to the end of September, but our members are able to keep playing croquet during October and, depending on weather conditions, during some of the winter months.

Club play

We have the following regular slots:

Outside of these times, the courts are available for practice and play via a court booking system, which allows us to effectively track and trace and monitor usage.

Members are able to play any time except when matches have been arranged or when the lawn is being maintained.  Dates of matches and maintenance are displayed on the Club Calendar, and we will also contact members if the lawn is unavailable at short notice.

Competitions and Tournaments

We are the current Yorkshire Croquet Federation GC Handicap League champions for the 2023 season.

For members who enjoy the competitive side of croquet, we run a number of internal club competitions during the season for both new and experienced players.

There are opportunities for all members to take part in regional and national croquet tournaments, through membership of The Croquet Association.

We also play matches against other clubs:
