Sheffield win YCF Golf Croquet 2019 Level Play League

We finished the season unbeaten, with a solid victory in the final round against previously undefeated Ripon Spa. For more details see League Results.

Sheffield out of Secretary's Shield (AC)

We went out 5-2 to a very strong team from St Alban's on Saturday 13 July. Our team of Eugene (c), Adrian, Trevor and Mark stared down a forest of bisques but unfortunately could not get going once these were reduced. As two-time previous winner, we are sad to go out at this stage but we wish St Alban's very good luck. See https://www.croquet.org.uk/?service=inter-club&comp=S for more details.

Internal Competitions

Andy W wins club internal KO Golf Competition; Lorraine wins the Plate

A good day was had by all those competing in this year’s golf croquet knockout competition held 21 September. The sun shone, cakes arrived from various directions, good play was exhibited and friendly competition took place throughout. The club handicapper must have got things about right as half the games were won or lost by a single hoop!

The round robin stage saw a good many tight matches with early form showed by both John and Pauline who won all their games in their respective blocks. Good enough to see them in the semi-finals but neither were able to translate this early form to a place in the final. John lost out to Andy in another 7/6 game and a special mention of Dean who in his first season secured a final spot in some style beating Pauline in the other semi-final.

The final saw Andy able to bring his experience and good play to bear managing a fairly comfortable win against Dean, whose head was I am sure buzzing after his first full day of competitive play.

The plate exhibited friendly and generous competition between Lorraine and Ron with Lorraine’s name ending up on the plate in another tight 7/5 game.

Prizes were awarded and and another good club day came to a close.
